Details:

Possible henge. Mound 24ft diameter and 2ft high, ditch 22ft wide and 2ft deep, platform 50ft wide and outer bank 30ft wide and 3ft high (T239a). May be a disc barrow but the mound is eccentrically placed and has the appearance of being a recent addition, possibly a collection of stones from the field. The rest of the structure seems to be of earth. Consists of an outer ring mound broken by a gap that leads to the causeway. Edges of the bank ditch and platform blurred by the effects of ploughing. Overall diameter 154ft. {1}

Grinsell's Priddy 35. {2}

In 1954 while the field was under the plough it clearly revealed a circular bank. {3}

Has all the characteristics of a single entranced henge. {4}

Class I henge monument. Outer bank about 5m wide and 0.25m high. Within this a ditch 6m wide and 1m deep enclosing a central area 12m diameter rising to c1m. Trace of causeway on the N side with a corresponding break in the bank. Good turf cover but much eroded from past ploughing. {5}

Scheduling revised with new national number (was Somerset 299) on 8.4.1997. {6}

The site is surrounded by a number of barrows (PRNs 24140, 24157, 24156 and 24158) and a Neolithic occupation scatter (PRN 25965). {7}

The possible Neolithic henge, described above in (1) to (7) and centred at ST 5592 4982, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and lidar.

The earthwork consists of a sub-circular bank measuring 55m in diameter with an amorphous mound in the centre. The bank measures up to 13m in width. The mound in the centre measures 29m by 16m. {8}
